Why Businesses Should Offer Pro Bono

Corporate Kindness

Although generally associated with the legal sector, pro bono work means working free of charge for a client or project. At The Social Company, we believe that it is important to offer a certain number of pro bono’s a year to help not only individuals, but businesses and the community. The number of pro bono’s taken by a company can be set to as low or as high as you wish, and the benefits outreach the business.

A key principle for businesses considering pro bono work is to be committed for the duration of the project. There are a few things to consider before taking up pro bono work.

Firstly, whether or not you have the time or resources to commit to the project or placement. Secondly, take up pro bono work only if it fits your skill-set, abilities, ambitions and company goals.

Pro bono is a genuine and sincere way to give back to the community and is a great way to fulfil the company Corporate Social Responsibility objectives and helps enhance the organization’s reputation.

Your company has resources, money, the manpower and experience to be able to change someone’s life, to be able to focus in on what needs to be done and execute life changing steps for someone who wouldn’t have access to such an opportunity.

For the company team, it provides a sense of fulfilment on a career and personal level, knowing that they are working with a company that cares and gives back.

Results are more personal and concise compared to the annual budget of donating money to charities, which is also noble, but not as personal.

Offering pro bono offers opportunities outside of the typical markets that the company deals in and offers a great networking opportunity and strengthens new relationships, which in itself leads to business development.

What is your company’s stance on pro bono’s?
If you are a decision maker, would you consider introducing pro bono work?
We’d love to hear your thoughts
