It may be cliche, but I truly believe you should be able to love your work. Your work day takes up at least one third of the day, so wouldn’t it be nice to enjoy those 8 hours?
It doesn’t have to be a pie in the sky dream and wishful thinking; it can and should be the norm, to like (love) your work. It is possible to find a career that ignites your passion and brings you happiness.
When you invest your time and energy into something that resonates with your values and interests, work becomes more than just a means to an end — it becomes a source of personal satisfaction and growth.
Do not settle for a job that leaves you feeling uninspired. Seek out opportunities that align with your passions and goals. By prioritising your happiness and finding joy in your work, you can create a more meaningful and rewarding career for yourself
Maybe I’m coming from a place of privilege or luck … or maybe I worked extremely hard for the last 30 years. Maybe I had a strong work ethic and put in the work all hours of the day. Maybe I had the courage to walk away from over 4 different jobs, which admittedly had nice pay checks but were extremely toxic workplaces with horrible bosses. And now, 30 years into my career journey, I am fortunate enough to say I genuinely love what I do.
If you have also walked away from toxic workplaces, I truly salute you and am so proud of you. And if you’re stuck in work that doesn’t bring you happiness, I really hope you make that (terrifying) jump soon. Make the plan and take the steps, you’ve got this.
